For the second day in a row at The Dutch Masters, Dinja van Liere proved unstoppable in the CDI1* competition. Riding her KWPN stallion Mclaren OLD N.O.P.T., the Dutch rider claimed victory in Saturday’s Freestyle to Music, completing an impressive double. In a close contest, she narrowly finished ahead of Kris de Vries with Lexington, while Marieke van der Putten secured third place once again, just as she did on Friday, with About You RS2.
Van Liere clearly enjoyed her freestyle, although not everything went perfectly.
“I was very happy with him again,” she said afterwards. “We had a small mistake in the pirouette; I should have added a bit more leg, so he came back a little too much. That cost us some points, but overall it was still a very nice test.”
Ready for the Grand Prix
The freestyle was originally designed for stablemate Mauro Turfhorst, but it also suits Mclaren extremely well.
“It’s a very fun freestyle to ride and I really enjoyed it. He feels fantastic and is actually already ready for the Grand Prix. During the prize giving he even gave a small preview of that,” Van Liere laughed. “He already knows all the movements, now it’s just about refining them further. Hopefully I can start my first Grand Prix with him soon.”
Van Liere was also enthusiastic about The Dutch Masters itself. “Everything here is very well organised, for both riders and horses. I’m also very happy with the stables, which are much more spacious here than at many other shows. The Dutch Masters is a fantastic event and it’s a pleasure to ride here.”
